Spier is celebrated for its long-term commitment to the arts, and for its understanding of art's role in social transformation.

In 1996, Dick Enthoven, who bought Spier in 1993, had a dream of creating an annual season of performing arts to showcase and nurture South Africa's artistic talent: "Let us hope the winelands of the Cape will provide fruitful soil not only for our glorious wines, but also for a summer performing arts festival that, in the not too distant future, will be internationally recognised as important.
This will enable the discovery and nurturing of new and exciting talent."

With Spier wines we commit to the arts. Winemaking is an art. The signature wines of Spier, distinctive in their individuality and expression, are hallmarked by a strong heritage, dating back to the plantings of the first vineyards." The expression, 'DISCOVERING THE ART IN WINE SINCE 1692', encourages consumers to view wine as a work of art in the same manner as a fine sculpture or painting.
